K A I
KAI explores emotion as a fundamental structure of human experience, translating it into a visual language shaped by point, line, and plane—each symbolizing the origin, flow, and accumulation of feeling. Her formal inquiry is deeply influenced by Wassily Kandinsky, whose theories on the inner necessity of art and the emotional resonance of abstract forms serve as a philosophical foundation for her practice. Inspired by Kandinsky’s approach to translating internal states into visual structures, KAI constructs her own language of abstraction to give form to the intangible.
She hand-processes dak (paper mulberry fiber) to produce thick hanji, a traditional Korean paper, and employs printmaking and sculptural techniques to layer, carve, and reveal the emotional residues embedded in time. By reinterpreting traditional materials through a contemporary lens, she fuses Eastern aesthetics with geometric composition to investigate the complexity and architecture of inner emotional states.
